BCCI extends IPL retention deadline to November 17

The extension comes in view of the India-New Zealand ODI scheduled for November 15, the original cut-off date for franchises to submit their lists
The BCCI has extended the deadline for IPL franchises to submit their player retention lists by two days. In a communique sent to the teams on Monday (November 2), the board said franchises now have until November 17 to finalise the players they wish to retain or release. The original deadline was November 15.
The date and venue of the IPL mini-auction remain unchanged, with the event scheduled to be held in Goa on December 16.
It is understood that the extension was prompted by the India-New Zealand ODI scheduled for November 15. The fifth and final game of the series will be played at Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui on that date. The BCCI has consequently given franchises an additional two days to complete their retention process.
An ODI is scheduled on the day of the auction as well, with India set to host Sri Lanka in the second match of the series at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. However, the BCCI has given no indication of a change to the auction schedule, with the latest communique reiterating December 16 as the date for the event.
BCCI's message has also outlined the timeline leading up to the Goa auction. Player registration has already opened, with the process commencing on Monday (November 2).
Franchises will have until Tuesday (November 17) to complete their retention and release process, following which the player registration window will close on November 23. Teams will then have until December 1 to submit their final list of player choices for the auction. The final auction register, including the player sets, will be released on December 3.
