Yuvraj Singh appointed Delhi Capitals assistant and batting coach ahead of IPL 2027
In his first formal coaching assignment, Yuvraj will have two reunions: with the Delhi franchise he once played for, and with Sourav Ganguly, under whom he played for India
Yuvraj Singh has been appointed assistant and batting coach of Delhi Capitals for IPL 2027. In recent years, Yuvraj has mentored several Indian cricketers like Abhishek Sharma and Prabhsimran Singh, although the Delhi Capitals appointment will be his first formal coaching assignment.
The former India all-rounder will reunite with the Delhi franchise, having represented them in the 2015 season after they'd secured his services for INR 16 crore at the auction, making him the most expensive player in IPL history at that time. The appointment also reunites him with Sourav Ganguly, his former India captain, who was recently named the head coach of Delhi Capitals.
To a side still looking for its elusive first IPL title, Yuvraj brings a wealth of experience, having played a key role in India's 2007 T20 World Cup and 2011 ODI World Cup triumphs. Yuvraj also featured in 132 IPL matches, scoring 2750 runs and picking 36 wickets. His international career was stellar too, with 40 Tests, 304 ODIs and 58 T20Is across 17 years.
"We are absolutely thrilled to welcome Yuvi to the Delhi Capitals family," said Parth Jindal, the franchise's chairman. "Yuvi is one of Indian cricket's greatest match-winners and someone who has played a pivotal role in mentoring many of the brightest young talents in Indian cricket today. His experience, winning mindset, and ability to connect with players will be invaluable to our squad."
Yuvraj, meanwhile, expressed excitement at beginning a new chapter with the franchise.
"I have an old association with the franchise and know the owners well, which makes this a special opportunity for me. I'm also looking forward to teaming up with Dada, this time as coaches," he said. "Coaching is something I am truly passionate about, and I cannot wait to get started with this extremely talented squad."
