Franchises told to prepare for IPL auction on December 16
Pending a final decision, the BCCI has sought details from franchises on the size of their delegations for the proposed December 16 IPL auction in Goa
The IPL auction is scheduled for December 16 at a five-star venue in Goa. The development has emerged from a WhatsApp message forwarded by the BCCI logistics team on Saturday. However, a formal email confirming the date and venue has not yet been sent to the franchise owners or chief executives.
“The IPL 2026 Player Auction will take place on December 16, 2026 at ITC Grand Goa and auction briefing will be held on December 15, 2026,” the BCCI whatsapp notes. Multiple IPL franchises have confirmed receiving the message from the BCCI, which sought details of the size of each franchise’s delegation that is expected to attend the auction on December 16.
It has been explained that the message is intended only to facilitate logistics and travel bookings to Goa. Whether the date will be changed later remains unclear, but a formal communication is expected to be sent to the IPL owners and CEOs in due course.
Interestingly, India are scheduled to play Sri Lanka in an ODI in Bengaluru on the same day. It is unclear whether the date of the match will be altered, but recent reports said there is a possibility that the venue of the first match (December 13), to be played in New Delhi, will be changed. The BCCI, though, recently denied plans to shift the match.
