The veteran spinner featured as a player for DC across 10 seasons

Veteran spinner Amit Mishra has returned to Delhi Capitals as their spin bowling coach. He joins a short list of ex-cricketers - Sourav Ganguly (head coach), Yuvraj Singh (Assistant coach) and Chaminda Vaas (Fast bowling coach), who were all recently appointed amidst a wholesale shake-up of the backroom staff at the franchise.

Mishra has rich IPL experience, having played 162 matches across 16 seasons, starting all the way back in the inaugural edition in 2007. He started out at the same franchise - called Delhi Daredevils then - and played 10 of his seasons with them.

Mishra, who last played in the tournament in 2024, has 174 IPL wickets to his name including a five-wicket haul (5/17). He also holds the distinction of being the only player with three hattricks in the tournament's history, each for different teams - Delhi Daredevils in 2008, Deccan Chargers in 2011 and Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2013. Coincidentally, his fellow support staff member is one of two cricketers with two hattricks in IPL (Yuvraj Singh in 2009).

This development will come as music to the ears of DC's newest recruit Zeeshan Ansari, the left-arm wrist spinner, who arrived in a trade deal with SRH that saw T Natarajan go the other way. Leg-spinners Vipraj Nigam and Rehan Ahmed will also stand to benefit, should DC choose to retain them for next year's tournament.
