Overview

Tim Johnston

Timothy Glyn Johnston is a bowling all-rounder who is primarily an off-spinner. Born in Canterbury, Johnston represented New Zealand in the 2010 edition of the Under-19 World Cup alongside Doug Bracewell, James Neesham and Corey Anderson, who went onto play for the national team. He was the leading wicket-taker for the Kiwis in the tournament, picking 10 wickets at an impressive average of 19.10.

In Todd Astle’s presence, Johnston got limited chance as he was the second spinner for Canterbury. The green New Zealand tracks did not help his cause either. He kept toiling hard in the club and that paid off in the 2016/17 season. Being a regular in the playing XI, Johnston scalped 14 wickets in 9 innings and ended up as the highest wicket-taker for Canterbury (fifth highest overall).

The offie, who is known for his accuracy, produced his best spell in the first-class arena against Northern Districts in December 2017, where he returned with figures reading 5/78 (first innings). Johnston has drastically improved his batting skills with back-to-back good seasons with the bat and is now eyeing for the genuine all-rounder tag.
