Overview

Jamie How

An opening batsman, How plays for Central Districts and captains them whenever Daniel Vettori is unavailable. A consistent domestic performer, he forced his way into the Black Caps side on the weight of his runs in the domestic circuit; 704, 682 and 592 in the three seasons from 2002-03.

He made his ODI debut against Sri Lanka and played a sublime innings of 58. He made his test debut against West Indies in 2006, and was selected for the tour to South Africa as a replacement for the injured Peter Fulton. Though he was sorted out by Dale Steyn during that series, he retained his national contract for the next season and made some solid ODI scores.

A maiden ODI hundred came against England, but he has failed to keep the consistency going which has resulted in him failing to seal a permanent spot in the side. How though made a stunning comeback when he batted superbly in the Champions League held in 2010. Batting as an opener, he gave the team explosive starts and hit the ball cleanly.

He followed that up with a successful A tour to Zimbabwe and was recalled to the ODI squad to tour India. It was How's first taste of international cricket after a gap of nearly two years. With his ability to keep wicket seen as a viable option, the Kiwis selected him for the 2011 World Cup. He didn't make much of an impression with the bat in the World Cup, but shone as a fielder making some outstanding saves in the inner ring, fielding at cover and cover point.

Fact: How scored 222 in a List A match against Northern Districts in 2013, thus equalling the record for the third highest score in List A cricket.
