Shane Dowrich

Born in Barbados, Shane Omari Dowrich, is a West Indian wicket-keeper batsman. Dowrich made his Test debut against Australia in June 2015. His selection in the national team came on the back of a fine first-class season, where he scored 615 runs in ten matches at an average of 51.25.

Clubbing these numbers with his stats from the previous first-class season, Dowrich's combined average was a little over 50 and hence, Shivnarine Chanderpaul lost his place in the side to him.

Even though he made his international debut at the age of 23, Dowrich's talent got noticed much earlier. He was one of the four players from Barbados who were picked for the Under - 19 World Cup in 2010. He was the second highest run-getter for Windies with 229 runs from 6 games with an impressive strike-rate of more than 100.

He made his first-class debut for Barbados at the age of 18. At the end of the year, he was awarded the Lord Gavron Award for promising young cricketers in Barbados along with Roston Chase.

He showed his worth on his international debut itself. After conceding a 170-run lead to Australia, West Indies were struggling at 37/3 in their second innings at Windsor Park before Dowrich scored a gritty 70. Along with Marlon Samuels, he put on a 144-run stand for the fourth wicket to lift West Indies.

Not your usual chirpy wicket-keeper batsman, Dowrich has a compact technique which helps him accumulate runs. Someone who puts a huge price on his wicket, the diminutive batsman scored a well made 74 in the second Test against the touring Indians to help Windies save a Test.

His 107 runs in 2016, more importantly 60 of those, not out, in the second innings which came in an 87-run partnership with Kraigg Brathwaite at Sharjah helped Windies topple Pakistan in a Test. Chasing 154, Windies were 67 for 5 when Dowrich took charge to lead Windies home in a thriller of a game.

Calamity and him mitigating the damages continued but he lost form and only found it back when he scored his maiden ton against Zimbabwe at Bulawayo in August 2017. He shared a 212-run stand with skipper Jason Holder to put it across the Zimbabweans. The team management has shown immense confidence in his big match temperament and Shane would look to keep vindicating it back.
