Commentary

Both teams have their own fitness concerns. For South Africa, Anrich Nortje walked off with a suspected right groin injury yesterday and took no further part in the day's play. There is still no update on whether he will be available today. Meanwhile, Steve Smith did not come out to bat in Australia's second innings due to a neck problem, but is expected to bat today. However, his neck problem seemed to affect him in the first innings too, when he was far from his usual best. It remains to be seen whether he can bat with his usual fluency today.
Telford Vice checks in with a rather gloomy update from the ground: "Morning. Cloudy and windy - same wind as yesterday, the batting wind. Oh dear. Drizzle …" Not the kind of update South African fans were hoping for! Fingers crossed the drizzle clears soon and we get underway as scheduled.
A lot has happened over the last two days. Temba Bavuma led the fightback with a career-best Test score, while Marco Jansen and Simon Harmer chipped in with knocks in the 80s to propel South Africa to 425/9 (decl). Jansen then ran riot with the ball, claiming a five-wicket haul as Australia crumbled to 99 all out. Bavuma enforced the follow-on, and the Proteas tightened their grip further by reducing the visitors to 156/4 by stumps on Day 4. Australia still trail by 170 runs with six wickets in hand. South Africa will know there is still work to be done, but they have given themselves an excellent chance of levelling the series. Six good deliveries, six errors from the Australian batters - whatever it takes! Australia are staring at a mountain to climb if they are to save this Test. Can they pull off a great escape, or will South Africa finish the job? Day 5 is set up for an exciting finish. Hello and welcome, everyone!
09:00 Local Time, 07:00 GMT, 12:30 IST: With more than 75 percent of the overs lost to persistent rain and damp conditions, and South Africa ending Day 2 at 97/5 before slipping to 110/6 early on Day 3, few would have given the hosts much of a chance of saving this Test, let alone putting themselves in a position to push for victory. Yet, here we are on Day 5, with South Africa now firmly in the driver's seat and a famous win well within reach. That's the beauty of Test cricket!
-- Australia’s 13 wickets lost in a day are their most since the 1954-55 Ashes Test in Sydney.
Steven Smith’s fitness will be key, given that he has been dealing with a neck issue and did not come out to bat at his usual No. 4 position in this innings. South Africa’s seamers will get some much-deserved rest and return all guns blazing tomorrow, while Harmer will also be expected to make an impact. There is still no update on Anrich Nortje’s fitness following his suspected groin injury, but South Africa won’t be too worried about that for now. Tomorrow promises to be an enthralling day of Test cricket, and we will be there nice and early to bring you all the updates. Until then, good night and take care!
17:47 Local Time, 15:47 GMT, 21:17 IST: What a day for South Africa! They have managed to take a staggering 13 wickets today. From trying to save the Test after the first two days, to pushing for a result after Day 3, they’re now in a position where they should be looking to seal a win on Day 5. This is clearly South Africa’s game to lose. Marco Jansen was phenomenal at the start of the day, claiming a five-wicket haul and playing a key role in bowling Australia out for a mere 99. Not a single Australian batter managed to cross the 30-run mark. Once they secured a lead of 326, enforcing the follow-on was always on the cards, and that’s exactly what Temba Bavuma did. In the third innings, Travis Head and Marnus Labuschagne put on 92 runs, but once that partnership was broken, South Africa took control of the game again. Harmer found turn and dismissed Labuschagne and Beau Webster, while Rabada chipped in with two wickets of his own. Australia could have been in an even worse position had Jansen not put down a sitter at gully when Head was on just 9. The left-hander has since moved to 87 and is fighting a lone battle for Australia. Australia are still 170 runs behind with six wickets in hand.

OUT! Simon Harmer to Beau Webster, Lbw!! Given LBW, and he decides not to review it. Stays back to a delivery that’s quite full and is pinned right in front. Harmer strikes again and takes his second wicket! Harmer is pumped up, and so are his teammates! Webster stays on the back foot as the ball turns in sharply from a fullish length and pins him right in front. He looks to defend but plays down the wrong line.
